Program Coordinator Spotlight: Head Girls Basketball Coach – Kristen Benjamin

Where did you go to college?
Trinity University

What was a memorable college experience for you?
Travelling to Mexico City with the Trinity basketball team and playing in a tournament there and also getting to do a lot of sightseeing.

Where did you coach/work before St. Andrew's?
Most recently, The Archer School for Girls (Los Angeles), Kinkaid (Houston), St. Mary's Hall (San Antonio). Before that I coached basketball in Switzerland for a year.

What do you enjoy most about working at St. Andrew's?
I enjoy helping students improve and find success on the court. I also truly enjoy working with my colleagues and the other athletic coaches and administration.

What is your favorite movie?
I'm a huge Chevy Chase fan -- so any of those Vacation movies!

What is your go to game day snack?
Peanut butter & bananas

What is something positive that you have experienced or been able to do during this pandemic?
A lot of DIY projects at our house that we bought and moved into the first week of Covid (a treehouse, a studio, and a patio are a few of the big ones).

What is your favorite moment as a member of the SAS Athletic Staff?
Winning our final game of the season this year -- we beat a team that we lost to last year and everyone got to play.

Favorite Book?
Anything from David Sedaris

Favorite Quote?
“Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.” -John Wooden

Favorite sports to watch/follow?
College Basketball - March Madness specifically!

What's your walk-up/entrance?
Sia -- Unstoppable

Favorite vacation spot?
I love skiing, so anywhere with snow!

If you weren't working in athletics, what would you be doing?
That's hard for me to imagine, but I've always thought I would enjoy being in real estate.

What do you enjoy most about SPC play?
In a normal year, I loved traveling with the other SAS teams and being all together. It was really fun to stay in the hotels with the other SAS teams and to be able to support each other from the stands.

If you could coach any sport (that you do not already coach) what would it be?
Probably soccer or softball -- I almost played soccer in college instead of basketball!

How many years have you been a coach/staff member at SAS?
This is my 3rd year coaching at St. Andrew's.

Do you have any unique pre or post game rituals?
I used to close my eyes and visualize all of the plays that we would be doing in the game.
