Boys Soccer

The St. Andrews Boys Soccer Program is one of the leading participatory sports at SAS.
We have two teams at the Upper School, Varsity and Junior Varsity, that typically have a minimum of 20 members each. We also have a boys’ team at the middle school level that has between 15 and 20 participants.

The varsity team typically plays 20 games per season that runs between November and February. We play a number of non-conference games against schools from San Antonio and the Austin area. We also host our Winter Classic Tournament that includes schools from Fort Worth, Houston and the Austin area. We participate in the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) South Zone which includes St. Stephens in Austin and 6 schools from the Houston area. We play each conference school once and compete for a place in the SPC Winter Tournament which is held over 3 days at the end of the season. Junior Varsity plays upwards of 12-15 games per season many times as part of a double-header with the varsity team. The middle school team plays 10-12 times per season. The middle school  home games are played on the Upper School campus.

We are fortunate to have two of the finest natural grass soccer fields in Austin, the upper and lower fields. Schools in non-conference play often forego their own home games to be able to play against us on our home field. Our program instills the competitive spirit of high school athletics at the same time as teaching good sportsmanship, leadership, self-confidence and commitment. Basic skills of controlling, passing and receiving the ball, shooting and teamwork are taught on all levels. As the players progress through the levels of play, higher tactical knowledge and skills are introduced. The values of hard work are seen through the well-organized and challenging training sessions.

The varsity team has qualified for the SPC tournament all but twice in its history of the program, including winning a Division II Championship in 2010.
